St Christopher’s Catholic Primary School Panania celebrated the feast day of Australia’s early champion of access to education, Saint Mary MacKillop, with a blessing and opening of their new learning spaces.
Archbishop of Sydney Anthony Fisher OP officially blessed and opened the 15 classrooms, new library and outdoor deck on 8 August.
Principal Jamie Wahab said staff and students were excited to use the spaces. The beatitudes written on the glass walls surrounding the deck were inspired by his time on a Holy Land pilgrimage with Archbishop Fisher in 2017.
The classrooms are modern and feature movable walls, writable surfaces, the latest audio visual equipment and a built-in green screen that students will have the opportunity to use to make films across all subjects in the school curriculum.
“The teachers are as excited as the students to have spaces where you can really cater for all students’ learning needs, and where you can take great risks in terms of the type of learning activities you provide,” Mr Wahab said.
“There aren’t many spaces like this in Sydney, so they are thrilled to have the opportunity to work in them.”
